Fiddle Lab: Violin Presets
19 sounds for acoustic fiddle and electric violin on Line 6 HX Stomp. $10 USD, one-time purchase.
From clear bluegrass chops and country slap to smoky blues, train whistles, ghostly swells and strange little fills.
Each sound has three snapshots and three EQ options to help you match it to your instrument. Includes 57 preset files, a two-page Start Here PDF and a detailed PDF user guide.
Three versions for your setup
Every sound comes in V, P and E versions. The letter at the start of the filename tells you which starting tone it uses. All three are included.
- V: Fiddle through a preamp
- Start here if you already shape your fiddle’s tone with a preamp or DI with EQ. This version keeps the starting EQ mostly neutral, leaving room for the tone you’ve already dialed in.
- P: Acoustic fiddle pickup
- Start here if your acoustic pickup has little tone shaping before the Stomp. Gentle cuts in the upper mids and treble help soften a bright or scratchy sound.
- E: Electric violin
- A starting point for electric violin, with a little more low-mid body and stronger softening of the high end.
Choose the closest match, then compare by ear. You get the same effects and snapshot choices in each version, with EQ adjusted for the instrument feeding them. No particular brand of preamp or DI is required.
Inside the collection
Everyday fiddle
- Front Porch
- A natural fiddle tone with a little room ambience for everyday playing.
- Honky Tonk
- Short slapback echo and optional tape grit for country licks and double-stops.
- Warm Wood
- A softer, rounder tone that takes the edge off bright upper strings.
- Bluegrass Chop
- A dry, clear sound for rhythmic chops, shuffles and fast bowing.
- Lonesome Waltz
- Long reverb and optional echo give slow melodies room to linger.
- Western Swing
- A quick slapback and subtle chorus add body to swing lines and double-stops.
Blues, harmony and atmosphere
- Midnight Blues
- Moves from warm, smoky fiddle to an overdriven lead with sustain and spacious echo.
- Twin Fiddle
- Adds a fixed third or fifth above your melody for phrases where the harmony fits.
- Ghost Bow
- Notes fade in gently, with long reverb and echo for haunting intros and held melodies.
- Bo Diddle
- Tape grit, short echo and pulsing tremolo for rhythmic country and blues riffs.
- Canyon Call
- Clear, spaced-out echoes answer your phrases when you leave a little silence.
- AM Radio
- A thin, rough old-radio tone you can switch back to full sound as the tune opens up.
- Fiddle Choir
- Subtly detuned layers thicken slow melodies, with extra reverb and echo for held notes.
Something different
- Train Whistle
- An upper octave and long reverb turn sliding notes into distant, whistle-like calls.
- Swamp Thing
- A low octave, tape grit and a responsive filter give short riffs a growl or a quack.
- Tape Gremlins
- Wobbly tape tones and uneven-sounding echoes put a strange twist on familiar phrases.
- Backwards Bow
- Reversed echoes follow your live playing for swirling fills and spacious transitions.
- Space Barn
- Chorus, long echoes and deep reverb surround your fiddle with a lingering wash of sound.
- Robot Chicken
- An upper octave, a quacky filter and fast tremolo turn short notes into robotic clucks.
What you need
An HX Stomp, HX Edit to import the presets, and a way to connect your fiddle or electric violin to the Stomp. The guide helps you choose an EQ option for your setup.
The guide explains each snapshot, gives playing exercises, and helps you adjust the sound. Twin Fiddle uses fixed harmonies; the key and chords of your phrase still matter. A looper is not included in this edition.
